Target logo seen from Google Earth - Did KFC goof?

As a follow-up to yesterday's KFC logo visible from space post, several readers have pointed out that the Target Stores logo has been visible from Google Earth from some time.

In a news release, KFC claims their logo is the first to be seen from outer space:

KFC Corporation today became the world's first brand visible from outer space by unveiling a record-breaking 87,500 square feet, updated Colonel Sanders logo in the Area 51 desert. The event marks the official debut of a massive global re-image campaign that will contemporize 14,000-plus KFC restaurants in over 80 countries over the next few years.
However, several Target Stores logos have been viewable from Google Earth for more than a year, as seen here:

Google Sightseeing has this to say about the Target Stores logo images:
One of the most recognized corporate symbols in the United States is that of the Target corporation, who have 1,351 stores in 47 of the 50 states. Of those 1,351 stores we’ve found three which have a giant Target painted on the roof, all of which are unsurprisingly located near major international airports (not air force bases, because that would be silly ).
So, who was the first to have their brand visible from space?

It seems Google Sightseeing may have your answer again... ;-)

Perhaps what was meant was: Visible by the naked eye, i.e. can be seen by an astronaut orbiting in a space craft.

Egil, if that's what KFC meant, they didn't make the logo big enough.

The notion that a symbol less than two acres in size could be seen by an astronaut is ludicrous. The Pentagon can't be seen with the naked eye from space, and it's about 15 times the size of the KFC logo.

who cares?
maybe KFC should be spending their resources on producing chickens without pumping them full of hormones and steriods.. and packing them tightly into cages.

who are they advertising for,, ASTRONAUTS??
